Taking up a new hobby can be fun and exciting. Learning about skiing can help you become more physically fit as well as provide you with a great new way to spend your winter free time. There are several types of skiing which are popular today, but for the general public, there are two specific kinds. These are downhill and cross country.

Downhill skiing required a lot of practice. You will need to learn to balance as well as how to speed up and slow down when necessary. For beginners, the lessons will usually include a lot of time on the ground after a fall. This is why the beginner hills are small, to avoid serious injury.

Cross country skiing is not quite as difficult as downhill but it will require more physical strength and endurance. Going cross country means you will be covering miles of terrain. In addition, these will be mainly flat surfaces with only a little bit of downhill. This means you will need to propel yourself without using gravity to move you along.
